Project 1, Day 3

Today on the third day of production, things carried on smoothly throughout the day.

The programmers have continued working on movement with controllers as well as making the json files I mentioned yesterday. So far they haven’t requested anything to sacrifice for their dark rituals of coding, but I suspect it won’t be long now.

The artists have continued to define the artstyle as well as making a few mock-up images and props. The lead artist had also made a menu track to use in game on her free time, which fits very well and sounds great.

Us designers have continued working on the menu design as well as make a spreadsheet for all of the sound effects that we will outsource from a friend. Our lead designer also has been working plenty with the artist in establishing a style for the menu design and have agreed on one to run with.

Other than that, we took an hour away from work as a group to just relax and have fun to help keep spirits high and not overwork anyone. We played some ‘Mafia’ together and had some go-fika which was an overall good time.

That about sums up today’s work. Onwards to the morrow we go!

Project 1, Day 2

As the second day comes to a close, it’s time to update this blog again.

Today things continued forwards smoothly, without any real showstoppers so far. I managed to finish up three different placeholder-maps to be used for testing before our artists create the final products.

Meanwhile, our artists have been keeping themselves busy with further developing the art guide they’ll be using for reference as well as making example sketches for GUI and characters.

The programmers have been working diligently and finished movement, the camera positioning and have begun working on tools for us designers to use to tinker with variables without needing their time. They have also begun making a tool for implementing animations.

The other designers have finished another three placeholder-maps as well as begun designing the menu.

That’s about it for the day and we will see what tomorrow brings!

Project 1, Day 1

Today was the first day of out project, although most of it was spent on pre-production. We also had a meeting with the supervisors to see if there was something that we had missed or overlooked, and that we did on the art side of things.

We had failed to make time for our artists to make an art guide and properly plan the art style we should go with.

To solve this, our lead designer and artists had a meeting to discuss these things and properly plan for how we should progress. The meeting resulted in the artist now having a clear art guide and plan for how to proceed.

Us designers and programmers have started up on our individual tasks, but we have not gotten too far as of yet due to most of the day being spent on planning and moving our things around.

My first Game Project

(Long) Armed Fighting

This will be the first post for my current game project and will be updated on workdays for five weeks starting on the 18th of November 2019 and ending on the 20th of December 2019.

The game we will be making is a Top-down brawler for 4 players were the core mechanic is that your only mode of attacking is punching using a stretchy arm. The arm will travel until colliding with something, at which point it returns to the player. During said punch, the player cannot move.

The game will also feature a cartoony artstyle with up-to four unique characters.
